Nishikigoi

Mobile & Graphic Design
Project Overview
Nishikigoi is an app designed to educate, inform, and promote the interest of keeping and appreciating koi fish. The app offers a variety of services such as a Fish Food Calculator, Fish Identifier, and Pond Maintainer. As part of my graphic design class, we had to design a logo, UI pack, and finally high-fidelity mockups of the app.
My Contributions
This was one of the largest projects we worked on in graphic design, as each part grew on the last. We started with a logo, developing brand identity, and color schemes, and eventually built that up into an entire app mockup. This process taught me the importance of consistency as our project grew, and how the real design process works through style guides, UI packs, and high-fidelity mockups.
UI Pack
Throughout four weeks, I worked to create logo designs, UI elements, and high-fidelity mockups for Nishikigoi, a koi fish-focused app. By learning about various components of graphic design such as typography, gestalt principles, and interaction design, we practiced them in photoshop and illustrator each week to build up a final version. We went step-by-step through the design process, revealing the complexity of each one.

By starting with a logo design to understand the color harmony, sizing, and typeface style, it created a smoother design process overall. These steps revealed how one grows on the other, and many mistakes can be made if something is skipped. I then created the styleguide and UI pack, focusing on consistent themes from the logo creation. Finally, when all elements were built, I combined all aspects of the project to create high-fidelity mockups, incorporating all the factors of the design into one. Overall, I learned a lot about graphic design through this project, and have gained experience on Photoshop and Illustrator to develop these skills in my own way.

Other Graphic Design Projects:

Throughout my graphic design class, we made a variety of different projects including an infographic, alphabet, and vector graphics. These were independent projects that highlighted other photoshop and illustrator skills.
